Everyday I try to find what is the best platform to use for making moolah on the web. Everyday I find out that wordpress blows all the others out of the water. If you know what you are doing and find the right plugins for it, Wordpress will make your life a whole lot easier and *cough* richer. I have been using Wordpress for my sites for about 2 years now and it just keeps on creeping back.

I would say one of the more lucrative ways to make money on the internet is building a site that functions well and builds traffic over time and sell it for a profit. I recently sold a site for $10,000. That is a nice chunk of change isn’t it?! That site took about a year to build and maintain traffic. Building traffic to a legitimate site can lead to return traffic and over time you will make money but you will not see it in the short term. That site was making about $800 using Google Adsense alone! Can you imagine what I could have earned if I used ValueClick, Commission Junction, or some other Click Per Action (CPA) advertising? I would be in a gold mine from just one site.

 That is the kind of attitude you must have for any website that you design. JUST GO AHEAD AND START MAKING YOUR SITE AND THE MONEY WILL COME!

Yeah, I am sure you have heard of him somewhere, sometime. It is that character John Chow from JohnChow.com. Is he really as good as he says he is? Does he really make money? Is he cheating? Or is it hard work. I would call it a little bit of all of it. But, in reality it is just plain “right place, right time” matched with hard work. Here is the front page of his self-proclaimed source of reliance for making money on the internet.

 To me, at first glance all I see is a page filled with Affiliate marketing buttons and advertisements. That is where he claims to receive most of his income. If you sift through posts you will find affiliate links to a wide variety of advertisers. But what he does is clever. By integrating posts where he reviews the products and the affiliate link, he making money easy. Where he earns a “buck” is when someone clicks after reading the article. This is a good way to look at things on the Internet. Get yourself into a mind frame where you can write about something that someone sells. Infact, if I had an affiliate account with Johnchow.com (does he even have one yet? he should), I would make some sort of money writing this article and convincing you to go look at his page to see what I am talking about.

Affiliate marketing can be a very rewarding to someone that has a achieved great success at it. I suggest the first thing you should do is go out and make a site that reviews some sort of consumer electronics good. Say the Apple IPhone is a perfect example. JUST START WRITING!

I find it very necessary to make sure that I have installed the Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for Wordpress plugin on all my wordpress installations. It makes creating a site map extremely easy and is a one step process. The best part about the plugin is that it does not require any PHP coding what so ever so even the unexperienced blogger can create their sitemaps.

Sitemaps are sometimes underrated because many forget to put one up. I suggest that each of your sites maintain a good functioning sitemap that allows the main crawlers (Google, Yahoo, MSN) to crawl your site ALREADY knowing where to find the pages.

Many Black Hat (and White Hat) web marketings/programmers like me make sure that a good functioning sitemap is ready for the bots to crawl. Do yourself a favor and download this plugin for Wordpress 2.1 and above (which you should have upgraded to by the way).

An integral part of marketing any site whether it be general “real” information or some black hat ebook you are trying to sell is that you should market your site in the signature of your profile in website forums. A great example would be the huge Digital Point Webmaster Forums. People are always trying to hawk some product on there and it is a great way to get exposure to your site.

I remember promoting a White Hat site I sold recently. Early on in the SEO campaign (which by the way NEVER ENDS), I increased my backlink count by adding a link in the signature.

Notice how I keep writing INTELLIGENT… That is what goes through. As more and more people learn to counter-act the spamming industry (for what it’s worth I’m glad)… the more and more we must learn new methods to increasing our side of the equation.

What you do is follow this link to a Google Search and find some good candidates to follow up with post that somehow works your backlink into the site. We all know that forums have a signature line.. well if the site you choose has a forum, register, and hope that they let you in. WHEN that happens do not go ahead and spam the hell out of it.
